1. What is your student to teacher ratio? An average of 8 to 1. 2. Is there a deposit? No, however fees are due upon enrollment. 3. Are snacks provided? Yes, a daily morning and afternoon snack of popcorn, chips, granola bars, crackers or similiar items are provided, however, please let us know if your child has any food allergies. 4. What are your staff qualifications? All teachers at Camp Wired are certified Austin-area teachers with at least 10 years of teaching experience and have current CPR and AED training. Teacher aides are currently enrolled in college and all staff have had a current background check. 6. What if my child has special needs? While Camp Wired teachers are experienced and certified, we are not specifically a special needs camp. If your child receives special services at school, we will do our best to address those needs in our classes. Please call me or email me to discuss your child's specific needs. We want your child's experience at Camp Wired to be a successful one. However, if your child requires an aide at school, then an aide must accompany your child to class. The aide must be at least 18 years old and must provide Camp Wired a valid background check. Please contact us prior to enrolling so we can discuss your child's needs. Our goal is to make sure every child succeeds at Camp Wired. 7. What about non-computer activities? Students will spend time outside in a shaded area playing kickball, baseball, basketball, throwing frisbees, and other such activities three times a day for at least 30 minutes. 8. Why Camp Wired? Camp Wired is locally owned. Our curriculum is created by experienced, certified Austin-area teachers and is designed with kids in mind. Students receive handouts, detailed project specifications, and instruction that scaffolds learning in a way that addresses many different learning styles. The curriculum is constantly reviewed and revised throughout the school year. Our teachers are dedicated, smart, and love teaching. Your kids won't even know they're learning! 9. What software and hardware do you use? Adobe Photoshop, Scratch, MS Paint, GIF animator, PhotoStory, Moviemaker, Jam Studio, Flash MX, Premiere Elements, Photoshop Elements, GameMaker, RPG 2K, RPG XP, Stagecast Creator, Microsoft's Frontpage. Students will use scanners, digital cameras, digital video cameras, mics, and Dell computers running Windows XP. Currently we use Windows XP based software; however much of the software we use is cross-platformed. 10. Do you give back to the community? Yes, we have donated over $6,000 to the Austin community, sponsored scholarships, support KUT/NPR, and have given scholarships to Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Austin. 11. Does my child get to bring a project home? Yes, students will burn a CD of their work on the last day of camp. 12. What happens on the last day of camp? Students will showcase their final projects (parents are welcome) during the last 30 minutes of camp on Friday. We will have a pizza party on Friday from 12pm-1pm. On Friday, morning students may stay until 12:30pm and afternoon students may arrive at 12:30pm for pizza. Prizes in both the morning and afternoon classes will be awarded based on several different categories created by campers. FRIDAY CAMP AT AUSTIN LOCATION ONLY. 13. Is there a discount? This year both Round Rock Community Education and Eanes Community Education are not allowing multiple course discounts. 14. Why do I pay a materials fee? This fee ($20 per class) covers the cost of miniDV tapes, CDs, DVDs, handouts, binders, snacks, t-shirts, classroom supplies and other consumables. |
